Dr Charlotte Eckhardt has been a Consultant Orthodontist in Morriston University Hospital, Swansea since 2004 and is lead orthodontist for the Cleft Lip and Palate service. She became the deputy training programme director for orthodontics in Cardiff University in 2004 and founded the RCS South Wales Orthodontic Therapy Course in 2008.
She has special interests in Cleft Lip and Palate, Orthognathic Treatment, Aesthetic Medicine, Patient Related Outcome Measures, Education and Assessment,
In 2008 she developed the South Wales Orthodontic Therapy Course for the RCS England and became an MOrth examiner for the RCS Eng and was subsequently elected as the Chair of the Panel of Examiners, then Chair of the Board of Examiners before demitting in 2021. In these roles she has been involved in developing the MOrth examinations in the UK and overseas and moved them to a remote on-line delivery model as a response to the pandemic. The RCS England are now enjoying the highest level of applicants in the examinations history and running overseas diets of the MOrth examination in Malaysia, Egypt and India.
She is chair of the orthodontic MCN’s for Swansea Bay University and Hywel Dda Health Board (South West Wales), is a member of the Strategic Advisory Forum for Orthodontics in the Welsh Assembly Government since it’s inception. In these roles she has been involved in negotiating primary care orthodontic contracts, reforming the delivery of orthodontic services, writing the orthodontic standard operating procedure for orthodontics in Wales and a prioritisation document for non-urgent orthodontic care during the Covid recovery period for the Welsh CDO and primary care leads.
She is a visiting professor for the Chennai University in India, the University of Malaya and University of Trinidad and speaks nationally and internationally.
Charlotte founded her Aesthetic Clinic in 2014 and after achieving the highest marks and distinction in the MSc Aesthetic Medicine with the University of London was invited to become a Senior Clinical Lecturer on this programme. She held this post from 2015 -2021.
Charlotte was elected to the Faculty of Dental Surgery Board of RCS England in 2020 she is currently Dean of the faculty.
