Dr Maxwell Addo Seminar Reflective Practice Among Dental Educators. Exploring Concepts of Reflective Practice among Dental Educators
  1. This session is designed to introduce participants to evidence-based concepts of reflective practice.
  2. It foregrounds the role of emotional and psychological safety in reflection, reframing it as a relational, rather than a purely cognitive exercise.
  3. It emphasises the importance of ‘critical dialogue’ and examines different approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of professional practice.
  4. It highlights the potential tension between educators’ personal and professional values regarding reflection and institutional or regulatory demands and provides practical recommendations for continuing professional development (CPD) and curriculum reform, advocating for faculty training that enhances educators’ capacity to facilitate reflection with emotional sensitivity and pedagogical skill

Prof Albert LeungDelivering a modern Undergraduate Dentistry programme using a spiralled Primary Care approach.
  1. Main differences between the traditional hospital-based BDS programme and an innovative primary care/community-based BDS programme at RCSI.
  2. How a programme with early clinical skills acquisition, an integrated spiralled curricolum, and early/sustained intensive patient treatment experiences can: (a) train and qualify BDS dentists as valuable primary care-based dental workforce; (b) operate in line with the Irish National Oral Health Policy and WHO global strategy and action plan on Oral Health.
  3. Experiences learnt so far in the Irish context which might be of use in the context of Ghana.

  1. Introduce participants to the Hall Technique, a minimally invasive method for managing carious primary molars using preformed stainless-steel crowns without local anesthesia, tooth preparation, or caries removal.
  2. Evidence-based overview of the biological principles underlying the Hall Technique, including caries sealing and the rationale for avoiding conventional operative intervention.
  3. Indications, contraindications, case selection, and clinical outcomes.
  4. Step-by-step procedure for placement of the crown.
  5. Selection, fitting, cementation procedures, occlusal considerations, and postoperative instructions.
